It’s coming on Christmas, they’re cutting down trees
They’re putting up reindeer, singing songs of joy and peace
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on…
Joni Mitchell

It’s the First Sunday of Advent and with Christmas approaching fast, we have added to our collection of books, stories, and graphic novels with a special relation to music, listening, and audio culture to provide you with some ideas for your holiday reading and gift-giving. New additions include Julian Barnes’ The Noise of Time, some Murakami, and songwriter Holly Throsby’s debut novel Goodwood.

The books themselves have no relation to Christmas, so if you don’t like the silly season, they may be the river for your mind to skate away on in the weeks to come.

If we have missed your favourite book, short story or poem that involves sound or listening, drop us a line on Twitter or via e-mail.
